About SEEK The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) created the Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) to inspire Black students with the opportunities and wonder of the STEM field. SEEK is a free, three-week summer program that offers a fun and engaging educational experience for students in grades 3–5. Below is important information for you and your student to follow throughout the program. Due to the high demand of the SEEK program, we require that: Accepted students participate in the full 3-week program. Students who miss more than two (2) days during the program will be withdrawn from the program. Attendance is taken daily and is monitored by SEEK leaders. A parent/guardian or representative must attend the mandatory parent orientation. Student registration will open early 2024!! Be sure to join our mailing list if you would like to be notified of future updates. Is my student eligible to apply to SEEK this summer? If you answer NO to any of the following questions, you are NOT eligible for this summer’s SEEK program: Is your student now completing 3rd, 4th or 5th grade? Do you have access to a reliable internet connection? (For Virtual program) Is your student able to attend three weeks of consecutive programming during the summer? If you are not eligible for this summer’s program, we look forward to either serving you in the future or having you join our NSBE Jr. program. Since there is no longer a first come, first served process, how are students selected? Students determined to benefit most from SEEK will be selected for participation. Criteria for selection include but are not limited to: gender, age/grade, household income, previous SEEK participation, previous SEEK attendance record, sibling participation, NSBE Jr. membership status, membership with a NSBE partner organization, and other student selection criteria required by funders, school districts, etc. Students will be accepted on a rolling basis, and the application will stay open until the start of the program. How will I know if I've been accepted? SEEK will accept students on a rolling basis. SEEK staff intends to inform parents of acceptance decisions by April. Will there be a waiting list? This year, we will keep the application open until May 2024, so we can see the true demand for SEEK. As additional slots become open in the program, our staff will accept students from the pool of completed applications. Are you now accepting SEEK Jr. mentors? Yes! And we ask that all parents, other family members and supporters who have benefited from the program please make a donation. Each SEEK site is sponsored by a company or other organization. However, in many cases, sponsorship dollars do not cover all costs. Receiving donations can enable us to open SEEK to more students. May I give a donation to the SEEK program? Yes!
